NYC Council Speaker on Ending QI

NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson recently spoke to MSNBC’s Lawerence O’Donnell about ending qualified immunity (QI) in New York in light of George Floyd’s death in Minnesota. Speaker Johnson was joined by retired NYPD detective and police-reform advocate Marq Claxton.

On Thursday, March 25, the New York City Council passed a comprehensive police reform package that limits qualified immunity for bad cops in the Big Apple.

In the interview, Speaker Johnson calls qualified immunity a “broken legal document that never should have been created.”
